Vijayalakshmi (Viji) holds B.Tech degree in Biomedical Engineering from Bharath University, Chennai, and MS in Biomedical Engineering from University of Kentucky (USA). She worked in companies related to market research, procurement analysis and testing, related to medical sector for 2.5 years before joining BETiC at IIT Bombay, in July 2014.

Viji developed a self-tapping suture anchor for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in cancellous/ osteoporotic bone, in collaboration with Dr. Deepak Bhatia of KEM Hospital, Mumbai.

She is currently working at TTK Healthcare, Chennai as Assistant Manager, Regulatory Affairs

Suture Anchors are required for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in cancellous / osteoporotic bone found in Indian patients. The metal prototypes are being produced at CMTI Bangalore.
